Rarámuri
Cucurbita pepo. Beautiful pumpkin-shaped medium sized fruits are cream, pale and dark green, yellow, and orange in color. Most have striped skin but some solid colors present. Sweet pale to dark orange flesh, great tasting. Abundant seeds great for roasting. From Seed Bank Collection.
Origin: high desert, about 7000' elevation

Papalote Ranch Cushaw
Cucurbita argyrosperma. Small, dark-green cushaws, with varied shapes. Tasty and versatile. Good keeper with very thick skin. Collected at Papalote Ranch in southern Arizona, but originally from Mexico. From Seed Bank Collection.
Origin: high desert around 4400' elevation

Sonoran Cushaw
Originally collected from Hispanic farmers in southern Sonora, Mexico. Round and butternut-shaped fruits with a mix of dark green, light green, and cream colored skin. Most have large peduncles (corky stems), and some warts on skin. From Seed Bank Collection.
Origin: Low desert, about 3280' elevation

Acoma Pumpkin
Cucurbita pepo. A wonderful and productive pumpkin from Acoma Pueblo. Round, thick-fleshed fruits are varied in color; some orange or buff, some with dark and light green stripes. Grown in northern New Mexico and used as winter squash. From the seed bank collection.
Origin: High desert, about 6600' elevation

Silver Edged
Cucurbita argyrosperma. Grown for the tasty and nutritious silver colored seeds. Seeds are easily extracted from the silver edged hull. Seeds are roasted for pepitas or used in pipián sauce. The fruit flesh was traditionally used as animal fodder, but is not particularly tasty for humans. The beautiful round, flattened fruits are white with prominent green mottled stripes. Magdalena Big Cheese
Cucurbita moschata. From Sonora Mexico, this is one of the oldest types of cultivated squash. Excellent producer of large, light orange, ribbed fruits with a flattened pumpkin shape (like a wheel of cheese) and wonderfully sweet, bright orange flesh. A staff and volunteer favorite! From Seed Bank Collection.
Origin: high desert at about 3600' elevation, but can perform well at lower elevations
About 3 months from planting to first edible fruit; keeps producing until frost
